Junia and Colin's Bluemont Vineyard Virginia Wedding

Junia and Colin's wedding was a truly special one! They were married at Bluemont Vineyard, one of my favorite places to photograph. It was the perfect day outside...sunny and happy...just like Junia and Colin! These two were beyond giddy that they had found each other and could marry alongside their closest friends and family. You can feel the love just looking at the photos.

One of my favorite elements to the wedding day is that Junia and Colin had an entourage of kids as flower girls and ring bearers. They were an integral part of the wedding and I absolutely loved it! You never knew what they were going to do next and it kept me on my toes, which was very fun.

My favorite images of the day is the last one. As you may notice in some of the photos, Colin was gifted some liquid nitrogen to make ice cream on site! Well, we used it to create a night time photo where it looked like Junia and Colin are kissing on a cloud. It was so exciting to create!

Many thanks to Junia and Colin for having me photograph their wedding day. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do!

Thanks for looking!

Stephanie & Brian's Washington DC Engagement Session

Stephanie and Brian are a photographers dream couple. They're sweet and adorable, but most of all, they are crazy in love with each other. This, of course, leads to exceptionally amazing photographs which you will see below!

This was my second engagement session with Stephanie and Brian before their wedding day and we decided to photograph in DC. We first stopped at the Delta Solar just outside of the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum (that's the sort of angular abstract photo). Then we walked over to the Hirshhorn's Sculpture Garden, where I took some of my favorite photos of Stephanie and Brian under a weeping beech tree! Afterwards, Stephanie and Brian changed outfits and we headed over to Constitution Gardens where the sun was going down and we got some great sunset photos! Then we ended our night with some nighttime photos of Rosslyn and the Lincoln Memorial. I love how DC looks at night...it's my favorite!

Hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do!

Laura & Neil's DC Fairmont Hotel Wedding

I am so excited to share Laura and Neil's Fairmont Hotel wedding with you today! This wedding was so much fun to photograph because 1) Laura and Neil are the most attractive, adorable couple ever, and 2) their family and friends were equally as stunning and happy! They made my job so easy on this wedding day!

It's hard to say what I loved most about this wedding, but I just love how smiley Laura and Neil were. If they weren't positively giddy, they were usually laughing, which is exactly how you should be on your wedding day! My most favorite photo of them is their exit out of the Colonnade at the Fairmont Hotel. They were still recessing from their ceremony and you can see their wedding party behind them laughing and cheering them on. It was such a special candid moment!

Many thanks to Laura, Neil and their family and friends for having me capture their special day! And a huge thank you to Patrice of Exclusively Events by PG for designing a stunning event as usual! Enjoy!

Natalie & Eddie's DC Kennedy Center Engagement Session

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Natalie and Eddie at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC! Natalie, Eddie and I were super nervous leading up to the session, as the weather had been calling for storms. However, we managed to take most of these photos in between storms and got a big storm at the end...complete with an umbrella photo!

There are so many photos I love from this session! It's hard to pick a favorite, as Natalie and Eddie are complete naturals in front of the camera. You can tell they really love one another and genuinely have a good time together! My favorite might just be the one where Eddie is spinning Natalie around and her hair is flying in the sky. You can't see their full faces, but you can see the joy in their eyes, which is all you really need to see.

Natalie and Eddie, I'm so stinking excited for your upcoming wedding! I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do.

Debra & Ben's Mess Hall Washington, DC Wedding

Every once in a while a wedding comes along that is so unique and different I cannot help but get excited about it! That was the case with Debra and Ben's wedding at Mess Hall. Mess Hall is a culinary incubator located in Washington, DC that offers a modern, industrial space for events. Plus, they have some pretty incredible murals that I got to play around with for photos!

Debra and Ben's wedding day was very relaxed and joyful. We started our day with some photos in front of the Capitol before making our way over to Mess Hall. Then I got to climb onto a roof for the big Mess Hall mural photo with Debra and Ben in the middle. It worked out better than I could have imagined and was so much fun! Afterward, we had their ceremony in the loading dock followed by an intimate reception indoors. As you can tell by the photos, everyone had such a great time and no one was happier than Debra and Ben!

Many thanks to Debra, Ben and their family and friends for having me along to photograph this special event! I had such a blast and hope you enjoy the photos below.

Atena and Ben's DAR Washington, DC Wedding

I'm so excited to share Atena and Ben's wedding at the Daughters of the American Revolution Headquarters! This wedding was simple, beautiful and classic. With a color palette of white and blues mixed with metallic accents, it's hard not to love!

Both Atena and Ben were beaming on their wedding day. From the first look to the ceremony, they couldn't keep huge grins off of their faces. Some favorite elements of the wedding were: having the Persian ceremony (the Sofreh Aghd) outdoors, photographing with a dalmatian puppy on the steps of the DAR and the very emotional weddings speeches at the reception. The day was full of so much love and laughter and you can really see it in the photos below.

Many thanks to Atena, Ben and their friends and family for having me on their special day. Enjoy!

Nicole and Michael's Springtime DC Inspired Wedding - Published in Washingtonian Bride & Groom

I don't know where to begin with Nicole and Michael! I met this amazing couple a few years ago at a mutual friends house and was immediately smitten with them. They are the nicest, most genuine people you'll ever meet. So when I found out Nicole and Michael were finally engaged...I pounced! Aside from being the most delightful gal ever, Nicole has incredibly good taste, and I knew her wedding would be nothing short of stunning and full of personality. Luckily, Nicole felt just as strongly about working with me as I did with her, so we made it happen! Hooray!

Nicole and Michael are sportscasters, which was something I learned early on in our friendship. In fact, Nicole and Michael met while working together and even co-anchored a Christmas Eve show the night they had their first date in DC. The rest is history! It's also no surprise their wedding would be very DC inspired, modern, dynamic and colorful: just like the two of them!

The wedding day was, in a word, magical. Nicole had everything planned out perfectly. I already knew about the various shades of pink she was incorporating throughout the day (especially in a stunning flower wall), not to mention little details like newspaper wedding programs, Washington Monument escort card/pencil sharpeners and special treats like Duck Donuts and a grooms Old Fashioned Bar. But one of my favorite elements was that Nicole and Michael included their dog, Josie, as the flower girl in their wedding. If you know Nicole and Michael well, you know how much Josie dog means to them, and I was so excited to photograph that little pup throughout the day!

Aside from how visually beautiful this wedding was, it was honestly one of the most genuine, heartfelt and loving weddings I've ever attended. Each and every guest that attended meant the world to Nicole and Michael and it really showed. Everyone laughed, cried, danced, rapped (yes, that happened) and even participated in a giant group hug during the last song of the night, Purple Rain. It was beyond epic and I feel truly honored to have photographed this wedding.

Nicole and Michael, thank you guys for including me in your special day. I loved every second of working with you and I feel so lucky to call you my friends! I hope you love your photos as much as I do and enjoy them all for years to come.

Tiffany and Vishal's Colorful Indian Fusion Wedding at the Mayflower Hotel!

I'm so excited to share Tiffany and Vishal's Indian fusion wedding today! I had the honor of photographing their wedding in December and loved every minute of it. Tiffany and Vishal have this undeniable chemistry when they're together. As I'm sure you'll see from the photos, every time they look at each other they grin from ear-to-ear and genuinely love being around one other!

Tiffany and Vishal had colorful Indian and American ceremonies at the stunning Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC. We were lucky enough to take some photos with the Mayflower holiday decor, plus some photos with White House and some other outdoor locations! Tiffany and Vishal were such troopers even working outside in the cold at times. Then, back inside, everyone laughed and partied the night away. I loved every second of photographing Tiffany and Vishal's big day and hope you enjoy the photos we were able to capture!

Many thanks to Tiffany, Vishal and their family and friends for letting us be a part of the festivities! And a big thank you to Mallory Rood of All the Dainty Details for planning this fabulous event! ❤️

The Foxes in My Neighborhood

Every once in a while I blog about the wildlife I encounter in my neighborhood.  This past spring and summer were BOOMING at Casa de Boggs, so we've had an abundance of animals.  Today I'm blogging about the family of foxes I encountered in the late spring.

This all started because Mike happened to see the foxes when he was on our porch one evening.  He grabbed the camera and called me out there and pointed them out in the field just beyond the tree line.  A mama fox brought her kits into the field with her and watched them as they ran around and played.  It was one of the most amazing things I've seen.

It's hard to tell from the photos, but I'm pretty sure I counted six kits total that day.  The most you see in one frame is five.  And, if it helps, I made an animated gif of four kits running in the field (with mama watching and the fifth kit with its face down the foxhole).  Because I do what I want and I demand to see those fluffballs in action!  :)

After our first encounter with the foxes, there were only a couple more times where I managed to get some photos.  The kits would only be outside in the morning or at dusk, so I missed them a good chunk of the time.  But, I did get more shots of them playing, and one even with some kind of small animal in its mouth.  I particularly love the photo of the three kits playing, one kit on top of another with its leg in the air, all three staring at me.

The family of foxes moved on sometime in the summer.  We heard them at night for a couple of months and then it dwindled off.  Every once in a while we see one of the kits, now very attractive adults, running in the field.  It's infrequent, but it's nice to know they're still around.  Maybe if I'm lucky I'll catch one playing in the field again one of these evenings!

I hope you enjoyed this little snippet of super adorable, non-wedding related goodness!  Happy Friday!

Cicely's Maternity Milk Bath Portrait Session!

A little over a month ago one of my best friends, Cicely, was about to give birth to her first baby.  While I don't photograph a ton of maternity sessions, I wanted to do a very small one with her, and try something a little different than the norm.  I had seen some examples of a maternity milk bath on forums and blogs and thought it was a really cool concept that hadn't been overdone.  That and I knew that Cicely had a brand spankin' new bathtub we could work with, so I thought it'd be fun to try!  Of course, she was very much on board with the idea and even her awesome husband, Jason, approved too.  Hooray!

The session went better than I could have imagined!  I brought tulle to wrap around Cicely, while Cicely picked out some flowers that we both thought would work well in the bath.  We wanted the images to look light, delicate and minimal, but also have a bit of girliness to them, as Cicely was expecting a baby girl.  I also knew the bathroom had a pretty great window that could provide some natural light for the shoot, and that's all I worked with in terms of lighting Cicely.  The results were very calm and dreamy, which is exactly what we were going for.

For any photographers/moms-to-be out there wondering specifics, I will enlighten you!  The milk bath mixture was about 2/3 hot water mixed with 1/3 (2 gallons) of cold whole milk.  The result was somewhere between a skim-1% milk-looking bath and it was really nice and warm.  Cicely loved it and apparently it moisturizes your skin while you're in the tub!  Win-win!  For flowers, make sure to use real flowers as those float.  I've read somewhere fake ones sink, so we didn't even attempt them.  The tulle I purchased at Joanne Fabrics and I went with a neutral grey to blend well with the white of the milk.  I would definitely recommend getting the softest fabric you can find so it's really comfortable when wrapped around the skin!

That's it!  I hope you like these photos as much as I do and that if you're a photographer or mom-to-be that you feel inspired to try it as well!  It was a lot of fun and I think the results are so beautiful.  Many thanks to Cicely and Jason for letting me take over their bathroom for these photos.  You guys are the best!  Enjoy!

Sarah and Daniel's Reagan National Airport Engagement Session!

I'm so excited to share Sarah and Daniel's engagement photos with you today!  I have known Daniel for a long time now, as I've photographed both of his siblings weddings (Hi JP and Jacqueline!).  So when Sarah, Daniel's fiancée, reached out to me about photographing their wedding, I was beyond thrilled and I cannot wait for their big day!

Sarah and I became immediate friends and we both decided it was a good idea to do an engagement session so she and Daniel could get comfortable in front of the camera.  We went back and forth with location ideas, but when she suggested Reagan National Airport as an option, I was totally in.  Sarah and Daniel both LOVE traveling and they really wanted photos that represented travel well. Daniel is also an architect and is a fan of gorgeous architecture (of course!), so that played a huge role in choosing Reagan Airport as well.

So, one bright, sunny afternoon, we met up and drove to Reagan Airport!  We had luggage in tow so Sarah and Daniel looked like legit travelers.  We stayed mostly in the terminal C area, grabbing a lot of wide architectural shots on the main floor, then some fun departure area photos on the second floor.  We took a little break in the airport restaurant for some drinks  (yay!) and then moved on to the Metro station area for some train photos.  After that we decided to head to Gravelly Point Park to get some sunset photos with the planes as they landed.  I am beyond thrilled with how all of the photos turned out and hope you enjoy them below!

Sarah and Daniel, thank you so much for having me photograph the most unique and fun engagement session I've ever had!  I hope you love the photos as much as I do!

Update: This engagement session was featured by Washingtonian Magazine! Squee!

Nicole and Michael's Cherry Blossom Washington, DC Engagement Session!

I am so excited to share Nicole and Michael’s engagement session on the blog today!  Nicole and Michael are sportscasters who met and fell in love in Washington, DC, so it’s no surprise that they wanted a quintessential DC engagement session!  Nicole and I had preplanned a couple of weekdays in the calendar for cherry blossom photos (since those blossoms are so temperamental), but as it would turn out, work would take Nicole out of DC until a Saturday morning which had to be our shoot date!  But of course, like Nicole and Michael’s relationship, the stars aligned perfectly for our Saturday sunrise shoot and the cherry blossoms were the most gorgeous I’ve ever seen them!  Hooray!

We started our shoot at the Lincoln Memorial for some photos of Nicole and Michael with the Washington Monument and Capitol in the background.  The sun took forever to come up, but eventually we saw that gorgeous sunrise light!  After our photos at the Lincoln, we took a short walk over to the cherry blossoms near the MLK Memorial and did the bulk of our photos right there!  As you can see from some of the photos, the cherry blossoms had already drawn quite a crowd even at sunrise, but we were able to make a few photos work so it looked like Nicole and Michael were the only two people there!  After our cherry blossom fun was over, we went back to Nicole and Michael’s neighborhood so they could freshen up, change, and bring Josie dog in for some photos!  Josie is their beloved basset hound (who I’ve also had the pleasure to dog sit) and she totally turned on the charm as we walked around historic Naylor Court in Shaw.  The last photo of Josie not wanting to come up the stairs after we were all done just kills me!  She’s so cute!

Nicole wore a white GUCCI jumpsuit (which Beyonce has also adorned…swoon!) and her fabulous gold JIMMY CHOO‘s for the cherry blossom portion of the shoot.  Michael looked pretty fabulous himself in a grey HUGO BOSS suit and even wore a lovely pink tie as a little nod to the cherry blossoms.  For the Shaw neighborhood portion of the shoot, Michael wore J. CREW and Nicole wore a Helmut Lang coat and GUISEPPE ZANOTTI shoes.  Josie dog had a brand new pink collar and leash to match the tie Michael had worn earlier in the shoot.  Nicole and Michael were one of my most stylish couples to date!

Nicole and Michael, thank you so much for such a fun engagement shoot!  I hope you love the photos as much as I do and I cannot wait until your wedding next year!

Stephanie and Brian's Meadowlark Botanical Gardens Engagement Session!

I'm so excited to share Stephanie and Brian's Meadowlark Botanical Gardens session with you today!  Stephanie and Brian are two of the nicest, most laid-back people I've ever met.  And, as it turns out, Stephanie and I discovered she went to grad school with one of my closest friends after she booked me!  Bonus for working with friends of friends!  :) Stephanie, Brian and I met up on a cold October day to begin their engagement session with their pup, Charlie.  I'm a sucker for dogs, so of course I couldn't resist having him in a few photos!  After we left Charlie at Stephanie and Brian's house, we drove over to Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, the location for their wedding.  Even though it was cold outside, everything looked so warm and inviting!  The colors on the trees were looking bright and lovely and some of the lighting at Meadowlark that day was spot on.  Brian was great and kept Stephanie nice and warm, which is what every fantastic fiancé should do during a cold engagement session, amiright?  ;)  My favorite photos of Stephanie and Brian were at the very end when the sun was going down.  Brian and I concurred that, even though we were on our way out of the gardens, the light was too good to resist photographing with!  I am so glad we stopped and made those photographs happen!

Stephanie and Brian (and Charlie), I love you guys and these photos and I cannot wait for you upcoming wedding this year at Meadowlark!  Hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do!

Kristi and Alex's Classic Tidewater Inn Wedding in Easton, Maryland!

I don't even know where to begin with Kristi and Alex.  Although it's only been a little over a year since our first meeting, I've grown incredibly close to this sweet couple.  I've taken their engagement photos, bridal portraits of Kristi and have now photographed their wedding.  I can't believe it's over!  Hopefully they'll find it in their hearts to let me photograph them some more and still meet me for tacos when I'm in Bethesda.  :) Kristi and Alex got married at the gorgeous Tidewater Inn in Easton, Maryland.  Their wedding day was perfect and sunny, and Kristi and Alex were both beaming throughout the entire day!  It's hard to pick a favorite moment from their wedding, but 1) I really got choked up seeing Alex cry walking toward the alter and 2) I laughed my butt off when Kristi and Alex struggled to get sand into their decanter (the sand in their bottles got stuck).  At one point Alex yelled, "We want...to be...together!" while ferociously trying to get the sand out of his bottle.  It was hysterical!

I could go on and on about this adorable couple.  They're kind, funny and have an amazing sense of style.  I loved everything about their wedding day and hope you do too!  Also, special thanks to the Tidewater Inn and Wit Weddings for making this event so great!  Enjoy!

Woltering Family Portraits!

I'm so excited to share photos from a recent family shoot I did with the adorable Woltering family!  This is such a special portrait session for me because Astrid (the gorgeous mamacita in the pale pink skirt) is a dear photographer friend of mine.  She's one of the kindest, most hilarious, no-nonsense and talented gals I know and I'm so lucky to call her my friend.  Her husband and daughter are just as adorable as she is, and with a new Woltering on the way in just a few short months, I leapt at the opportunity to photograph all of them together! Astrid, Chris and Charlotte were such a joy to photograph.  Charlotte is one of the cutest, most energetic toddlers around and is officially obsessed with picking flowers, hugging/kissing trees and running everywhere instead of taking photos!  However, she did a fantastic job of interacting with her mom and dad (and even hammed it up for a few photographs in between her activities!).  My favorite photos are definitely of the these three laughing and loving on one another.  I love this family to pieces and cannot wait for the next baby Woltering to come along!

Thank you Astrid, Chris and Charlotte for spending an evening with me and letting me photograph your beautiful faces!  Love you to the moon and back!

Just a little ice cream before glamming it up for the shoot, duh.  :D

Ashley and Cory's Stunning Hilton McLean Tysons Corner Wedding!

Three words: meant to be.  Those are the words that come to mind when I think of Ashley and Cory!  They met on OK Cupid three years ago and have been inseparable ever since.  What I loved most about their wedding day at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner was photographing Ashley and Cory interact.  They simply love being with each other.  They laughed, cried, danced and genuinely had an amazing time with each other.  And...bonus!...they got to do so with their family and friends there as well, who were just as lovely and hilarious as they are. It's difficult to pick out images I love most from their wedding day.  I really loved when Ashley and Cory glanced at each other during the ceremony.  I loved when Cory caught Ashley off-guard and mashed cake in her face during the cake-cutting!  And I loved a dramatic portrait we were able to create with the architecture of the Hilton McLean at the end of the night.  All-in-all, it was such a spectacular wedding and I was thrilled to be a part of it.  Many thanks to Johanna Goosens with Simplicity Events by Johanna and the team at Hilton McLean Tysons Corner for all their hard work.  And, of course, a huge thank you goes out to Ashley and Cory for having me there to photograph their special day.  Enjoy!

Jodi and John's Gorgeous Bluemont Vineyard Wedding!

Jodi and John's wedding can be summed up in one word: epic.  Jodi and John were married at Bluemont Vineyard on a gorgeous, sunny day.  Oh wait.  Scratch that.  It was sunny 90% of the time as you can see below, but a monsoon-like storm decided to make an appearance right at the beginning of the ceremony.  Doh!  So, we all ran inside from the porch and had an intimate ceremony right inside the Stable of Bluemont Vineyard, and it couldn't have gone any better. Aside from the storm, the epic-ness of Jodi and John looking like celebrities plus their insanely attractive (not to mention enthusiastic) friends and family made the day unforgettable.  They also know how to partyyyyyyyyy!  So, I'm calling their whole crew the "party animodels" (party animals + models).  As you can see below, everyone had an amazing time celebrating Jodi and John's special day.  I was so thrilled to be a part of it and can't thank them enough!  I hope you enjoy your photos, Jodi and John!  Muah!  :D
