Maggie and Lucas' Northern Virginia Wedding!

It's time for the full blog post of Maggie and Lucas' amazing wedding!  Yay! First off, let me just say how excited I was to work with this couple.  Maggie contacted me a few months ago about their wedding, and she booked me without ever meeting me.  However, I could tell by our emailing what a down-to-earth gal she was, and by the time we met I went straight in for a hug!  She's just the kind of person you feel like you've been friends with your whole life, that's how awesome she is.  Also amazingly, I met Lucas and the rest of the family by chance on a trip to Chipotle!  Lucas actually lives in Connecticut (and Maggie is moving there), but in a purely coincidental moment, Lucas, his family and Maggie's family happened to all travel to Alexandria to hang out about a two months before the big day...and I ran into them!  What can I say, I get hungry after consults sometimes, and I was so excited to meet Lucas and Co., even if it was at a Chipotle!  I knew right then and there that their wedding was going to be an incredible time for me.

The big day was amazing.  It was fairly warm outside for a March day, and Maggie and Lucas were so kind and easy-going on the day of.  Whatever I wanted them to try out, they did.  Even leading right up to the wedding, I dragged Lucas and Maggie to this amazing window for some portraits that I told them would be worth it, and they totally trusted me!  Their wedding party was equally as awesome, cooperating fully and even helping me out with carrying some equipment around!  How awesome is that?!

There's so much I love about this wedding.  I love the colors of pink, grey, black and white.  I love the details, including a handkerchief that Maggie's mom made for her on the day of her wedding.  But I think most of all I just love this couple.  The energy that their wedding had was something special, and it really resonated with me.  Maybe that's why I'm blogging so many of their images!  :D  I think you'll see what I mean though when you scroll through.

Maggie and Lucas, thank you so much for including me in your wedding day!  I was honored to be a part of it, and I hope you love the photos!

Maggie and Lucas' Northern Virginia Wedding - Sneak Peeks!

This past Saturday I had the joy of photographing two very awesome people: Maggie and Lucas!  Their wedding ceremony was at McLean Presbyterian Church in McLean, Virginia, and their ceremony was at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia.  These two sneak peek shots were both taken at McLean Presbyterian, and I'm super excited about them.  I almost passed up the opportunity to work with this window, and both of these shots were taken in that same window at different times of the day.  I was really pleased with the results!  I hope you like them!

Jacqueline and Chris' Northern Virginia Wedding - Part Two!

If you missed the gorgeous photos from Jacqueline and Chris' Part One blog post, go check them out here!  However, if you're ready to see some fun reception shots, keep reading!

Jacqueline and Chris held their wedding reception at the gorgeous Meadowlark Botanical Garden Atrium.  The room was beautiful, with lots of windows and lights up everywhere!  I particularly liked the hanging lights near the dance floor that really created this nice pattern of light in the background of some of the shots!  There was never a dull moment in the evening.  The room was full of lots of love and laughter, and it completely showed!  I love the dance photos because so many people got into the moment and really delivered in terms of dance moves!  And I was magnetically attracted to these hilarious 80's glasses that were being passed around the dance floor.  You'll see in the photos below!

A big thank you goes out to Jacqueline and Chris for allowing me to photograph their special day!  I had an amazing time and hope you love all of your photos as much as I do!  :)

In this next shot, Chris got pied in the face by his fraternity buddies.  What a lucky guy!  ;)

Jacqueline and Chris' Northern Virginia Wedding - Part One!

Last week you got a chance to view the  sneak peek from Jacqueline and Chris' wedding, and here are the official part one photos to their wedding!  Jaqueline, Chris and company started out the day at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens for the couples first look, which was nothing short of adorable!  I know both Jacqueline and Chris were nervous leading up to that moment, but all of that totally melted away once they saw one another!  You can see it in the photos!  :) After the first look, we hightailed it over to McLean Presbyterian Church to take some more photos before the start of the ceremony.  I was pretty pleased with the level of sass that the groomsmen and bridal party portrayed in their shots!  It's hard to pick a winner, but I think the guys might have a slight edge over the girls.  Eh?  Maybe?  ;)  I also loved the detail shots I was able to get of the girls shoes (Jacqueline loooooves red shoes), flowers (by Flowers & Plants, Etc.) along with Jacqueline and Chris' beyond gorgeous rings!  The ceremony was absolutely beautiful, and my heart melted when Jacqueline and Chris had their first kiss as a married couple.  Seriously, it's the most classy first kiss I have ever seen!

Following the ceremony, we went back to Meadowlark (the reception site) and finished up the rest of the formals on site with Jacqueline, Chris and the wedding party.  I loved the energy everyone brought to the photos, particularly for the men jumping and the girls twirling shots!  The twirling shot was a result of the girls having really great dresses, but also because I had Chris twirl Jacqueline in an engagement shot too, so the consistency there was really nice!  I had to end with a shot that I already had in the sneak peeks, just because it's one of my fav's!

Enjoy the photos below, and stay tuned for the final part two coming your way soon!

Rachel and Ryan's McLean Virginia Wedding - Part One!

It's time for the first of two lengthy blog posts of Rachel and Ryan's wedding!  Hurray! I shot Rachel and Ryan's engagement session in DC back in the early spring (not too long after Snowpocolypse), and I had been anxiously awaiting their wedding ever since! Their ceremony was at McLean Presbyterian, a gorgeous church just inside McLean, VA.  It was the perfect setting, with lots of gorgeous brick and sophisticated white columns to work with in photos!  Everyone at the church was super helpful, and the whole event went so smoothly!  Rachel and Ryan of course looked amazing, and they worked so well with their wedding party to deliver some sassy and hilarious photos I requested!  These photos are mostly taken at the church, with some of the wedding party photos taken right before the reception, at Springfield Golf and Country Club.  However, Part II will include more of the par-tay photos at the reception where you get to see Ryan and his killer dance moves (along with everyone else at the wedding!).  So, stay tuned, and enjoy the photos below!

Rachel and Ryan's Sneak Peek...Literally!

It really doesn't matter what kind of photographer you are. You could shoot thousands and thousands of photos, but sometimes there are these gems that completely stand out above the others. That's what this photo was to me at Rachel and Ryan's wedding. I knew as I was taking it that it would be my favorite among all of the shots of theirs. Trust me, I've sifted through lots that are fantastic from their event (which you'll see later this week), but this one tops them all. Why? This shot was quite literally a sneak peek. Rachel and Ryan had just become husband and wife, and they were absorbing all of that in a nearby prayer room. I was finishing up shots of their wedding party recessing out of the church, and also prepping for the group shots to take after the ceremony. After a good five to ten minutes, I exited the sanctuary to go talk to Ryan and Rachel and let them know we were almost ready to begin the group shots. Just before I got to the door of the prayer room, I looked up to see Ryan and Rachel hugging. I grabbed my camera, and "Click!" I took a photo of Rachel and Ryan kissing through that one panel of glass in the door I was about to knock on. A-maz-ing. Now, I realize you can pose shots like this. I even have some photos right after this of them sitting and posing for me through that same panel of glass through the door. However, nothing beats the exhilaration of capturing a photo like that right when the moment happens. They had no idea I had taken that photo until afterward, and I just love that. You can't get a moment like that back. Sure, you can pose it, but then you know it's a pose. Knowing that this shot is candid makes it 100 times sweeter.

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did! Thanks for looking!
