Ashley and Tom's Georgetown and Carnegie Institution for Science Wedding!

My first wedding of 2014 was with the most amazing couple ever, Ashley and Tom.  When I met first Ashley, I wanted to work with her instantly.  She is one of the sweetest individuals with the biggest, brightest smile I have ever seen.  We also figured out we have a ton of connections: she went to college with one of my high school soccer pals (who even recommended me!) and she lived and worked in my hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, which is where Tom proposed (more specifically in Noshville Delicatessen, a local fav)!  So when she officially hired me I was ecstatic and couldn't wait for their big day. Ashley and Tom's wedding was simple and classic.  They both got ready at the Loews Madison, a very clean and minimal hotel (perfect for details and portraits).  You'll note very quickly that I became a huge fan of their outdoor terrace that had giant green hedges!  One of my favorite shots of the day was what I call an unconventional family portrait.  When we were leaving the Madison, Ashley and her family walked out out together (the family all holding the veil) and they were all smiles and excited to leave for the ceremony.  I just love it because it's not your typical family photo!

Ashley and Tom's ceremony was at St. John's Episcopal Georgetown Parish.  My favorite photo of the day was taken literally just after Ashley and Tom had recessed down the aisle and passed through the blue church doors.  That excitement of being newlyweds was so palpable and I love that you can see it in the photo!  After we left Georgetown, we made our way to the reception space at Carnegie Institution for Science.  There are so many photos I love from the Carnegie, but the one that sticks out is of Tom's two groomsmen photobombing the bridesmaids photo.  That photo gives you a good indication of just how fun-loving and happy everyone was at Ashley and Tom's wedding!

Ashley and Tom, thank you so much for having me photograph you wedding!  You were an incredible couple to work with and I hope you enjoy your photos as much as I do.  And many thanks to my second shooter, Kristi Odom, and wedding planner extraordinaire, Tabitha Roberts, of Roberts and Co. Events!  Enjoy!

Megan and Kevin's Georgetown Wedding - Sneak Peeks!

This past weekend I was honored to photograph Megan and Kevin's wedding in the heart of Georgetown!  Megan and Kevin were married at Dahlgren Chapel on Georgetown University's campus and then held their reception at Sequoia on the Georgetown waterfront.  We had so many great photographic opportunities along the way, but here are two of my favorites from the big day so far!  The first was taken among the apartments that Megan lived in when she attended Georgetown (loved all the shapes and lines!), and the second was taken by the waterfront overlooking the Potomac and Kennedy Center.  I hope you love them as much as I do!  Enjoy! m&k_georgetown_wedding_01

Jess and Matt's Georgetown and Carnegie Institute Wedding!

You may remember Jess and Matt from their Capitol Hill engagement session back in the fall.  Welp, they're back on the blog this time because their wedding was last month and it is stunning! Jess and Matt both attend Holy Catholic Trinity Church in Georgetown, so it was only natural that they held the wedding there.  Honestly, the grounds were a photographers dream, with the historic church and chapel and some beautiful gardens in the back part of the property.  There were pink hydrangeas in bloom that matched Jess and Matt's color scheme perfectly!  Also, there's a basketball court on one side of the church, so naturally Matt decided to bring his basketball and shoot some hoops before the ceremony.  I put him to the test and had him take a few shots backwards, just to see if he had any wedding day luck on his side!  Of course, he did, so he made a couple of shots which you'll see below!

The ceremony was just gorgeous and I loved how excited Jess and Matt were to be married.  They kept looking at each other over and over during the ceremony and just grinning from ear to ear.  They even cheered once they were finally pronounced husband and wife, which was too stinkin' cute!

After the ceremony we took a few photos of the amazing wedding party at a nearby park, and then headed to the gorgeous reception site of Carnegie Institute of Science!  Talk about another place with some amazing photographic opportunities!  From the sun-kissed dancing photos, to the sun-kissed outdoor photos and then back inside for some dramatic night-time shots, I could not complain with how these turned out!  Jess and Matt learned how to dance before their big day, and you can tell in the photos.  I am a huge fan of Jess' long blonde hair moving (she did that in her engagement session), so I was really happy when her hair got some movement during the dance and then again later in a portrait!

I can't thank Jess and Matt enough for having me photograph their wedding day!  I had such an amazing time with you, Jess and Matt, and I hope you love these photos!  Also, many thanks to the vendors below for making this wedding day so magical!

Katie and Tom's Georgetown and Silver Spring Wedding!

Katie and Tom are the kind of couple I could sit back and chill out with all the time.  In fact, we met up at Adega in Silver Spring for their consult and walk-through and just relaxed, drank some wine and beer, and had a great time.  So knowing that their wedding is all done makes me sad, as I might not get to hang out with them anymore!  :(  But enough of me moping...on to their wedding! TomKat (oh yeah, I went there!) had their gorgeous wedding ceremony at Georgetown University in Dahlgren Chapel (an alma mater of Katie's).  After the ladies left their hotel, they continued getting ready over in a classroom of Healy Hall at Georgetown, and I absolutely had to utilize the giant chalkboard they had in there for some photos!  Some of my favorite shots of the day were the ones of Katie making a list of things she had to do on her wedding day.  So cute!  Katie and Tom looked amazing during the ceremony and totally beamed with excitement.  :)  After Katie and Tom were married, they wanted to go to The Tombs, a local bar and restaurant that Katie used to work at when she was still in school at Georgetown.  So we walked over there and got a few photos (and they got drinks!) before we headed off to the reception!   Their reception was held at the Silver Spring Civic Center, a new building in downtown Silver Spring that is a beautiful modern space for people to utilize for events.  I was instantly drawn to its modern structure and gorgeous wood on the outside of it, which you will see in the last two photos.

Many thanks to Katie and Tom for inviting me to be a part of their wedding!  I had such a fun time with them, their family and their friends.  Like I said, it's sad that it's all over, but I'm so happy I can share these photos with them!  :)  Enjoy!

Thanks for looking!

Love,

Lisa
