Liz and Tim's Hotel Monaco Washington, DC Wedding!

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a Liz and Tim's beautiful wedding at the Hotel Monaco in DC!  I had been to the Hotel Monaco before (and have always loved it for it's history and unique decor), so was really excited to be photographing a wedding in this unique space!  Liz and Tim decided to do a first look before their ceremony, and I was really excited about it because I had Liz go up this amazing stairwell to meet up with Tim!  Of course Liz and Tim looked so gorgeous and classic, and I just loved their first look reactions to each other. Liz and Tim's ceremony was in the Paris Ballroom, and boy did it look amazing.  I can't tell you how much gorgeous decor and lighting can transform a space!  I loved the intimacy of Liz and Tim's ceremony, as family was completely surrounding them as they exchanged vows.  Both Liz and Tim were beaming and looked absolutely giddy about getting married!  After the ceremony, everyone took an awesome break at the cocktail hour, and Liz and Tim even got to come in and enjoy it with their guests!  Meanwhile, A Sweet Soiree Events and her team flipped the Paris Ballroom into an absolutely stunning and dramatic reception space!  I think everyone who re-entered the room lit up with excitement at how cool it looked!  After Liz and Tim were announced we all enjoyed some dancing, amazing food, toasts and more dancing!  Oh, and don't forget the silly string (which I hadn't seen in YEARS!).  ;)

I want to thank Liz and Tim and their entire group of friends and family for having me photograph on their special day!  And many thanks to all of the incredible vendors that helped make it happen, especially A Sweet Soiree Events.  Enjoy!

Jess and Matt's Georgetown and Carnegie Institute Wedding!

You may remember Jess and Matt from their Capitol Hill engagement session back in the fall.  Welp, they're back on the blog this time because their wedding was last month and it is stunning! Jess and Matt both attend Holy Catholic Trinity Church in Georgetown, so it was only natural that they held the wedding there.  Honestly, the grounds were a photographers dream, with the historic church and chapel and some beautiful gardens in the back part of the property.  There were pink hydrangeas in bloom that matched Jess and Matt's color scheme perfectly!  Also, there's a basketball court on one side of the church, so naturally Matt decided to bring his basketball and shoot some hoops before the ceremony.  I put him to the test and had him take a few shots backwards, just to see if he had any wedding day luck on his side!  Of course, he did, so he made a couple of shots which you'll see below!

The ceremony was just gorgeous and I loved how excited Jess and Matt were to be married.  They kept looking at each other over and over during the ceremony and just grinning from ear to ear.  They even cheered once they were finally pronounced husband and wife, which was too stinkin' cute!

After the ceremony we took a few photos of the amazing wedding party at a nearby park, and then headed to the gorgeous reception site of Carnegie Institute of Science!  Talk about another place with some amazing photographic opportunities!  From the sun-kissed dancing photos, to the sun-kissed outdoor photos and then back inside for some dramatic night-time shots, I could not complain with how these turned out!  Jess and Matt learned how to dance before their big day, and you can tell in the photos.  I am a huge fan of Jess' long blonde hair moving (she did that in her engagement session), so I was really happy when her hair got some movement during the dance and then again later in a portrait!

I can't thank Jess and Matt enough for having me photograph their wedding day!  I had such an amazing time with you, Jess and Matt, and I hope you love these photos!  Also, many thanks to the vendors below for making this wedding day so magical!

Meet the Team of A Sweet Soirée Events!

Just a few weeks back I was thrilled to be able to photograph the wedding planning team of A Sweet Soirée Events!  I have been working with Courtney Swierczek, the CEO (Chief Events Officer…as she calls it!), since 2010.  Courtney is an absolute pleasure to work with, and I'm very excited to continue working with her and her team in the upcoming 2012 wedding season!  Courtney was gracious enough to write up something about the styled shoot that we did with her and her new employees Ellen, Karen and Marisa...so without further ado, here's Courtney! "I am so excited to have Lisa share our styled photo shoot with her readers, and I'd love to share a bit of our background story to it. We are so thrilled and proud that A Sweet Soirée Events was able to hire three new employees last year to serve our clients. But along with it, came the need for cohesive head shots and group photos for our website and marketing materials. Of course when thinking of who would be the best to shoot our group, I immediately thought of Lisa. We work so well together and I knew she'd be able to make us comfortable and bring out the 'us' in us.

We knew we wanted to do something fun for the shoot instead of boring ole' regular head shots, so Karen and Marisa came up with the idea to do a styled shoot much like it was it's own little wedding. We incorporated our company colors of black, gold, peaches, and pinks into everything from the table cloths to the flowers, and added a touch of french from the french macaroons to the champagne on ice.

We are so, so pleased with the result, and hope that you enjoy our company's reintroduction and styling!"

Thanks so much, Courtney!  I hope you all enjoy the photos, and if you are looking for a wedding planning team, definitely check out A Sweet Soirée Events!  You can also find them on Facebook here and Twitter here.  Also, many thanks to the Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast for letting us use their venue!  Thanks for reading!

Published Work of Lisa Boggs Photography!

This year has been a great year for Lisa Boggs Photography in terms of being published on a few different sites!  One site that's near and dear to my heart is, of course, United with Love, which is a DC-Area blog launched in 2010 (and it has been amazingly successful with DC brides-to-be!).  They were so kind to feature me last year here and here, and included me this year in a feature series they did on DC-Area wedding photographers (aka, Photography Week)!  Every bride still on the hunt for a photographer should read that whole series! UWL is a great resource for all brides-to-be, so definitely check it out if you're looking for vendors!  Anywho, here's a screen shot below from where they quoted me (click for full post):

Next up is an even newer blog to the DC-Area called Bayside Bride!  They're  an Annapolis and Chesapeake Bay Area dedicated blog that love to post everything nautical!  So when I submitted my sailboat-themed engagement session with Briean and Casey, they jumped on it!  Here's the screen capture (click for full post):

And lastly, national blog Elizabeth Anne Designs just featured Brooke and Aaron's vintage book-themed wedding on their site, which was incredibly awesome!  Many thanks to Ami for the feature and to A Sweet Soiree for the amazing planning of that wedding (which made it gorgeously publishable!).  Here's the screen capture (click for full post):

Many thanks to all of my clients and vendors who have all had a hand in these publishing opportunities.  It would not have been possible without you!  Of course, the year isn't over with yet and I'm excited for some other publishing opportunities that appear on the horizon for Lisa Boggs Photography!  So definitely check back to see what we're up to!

Thanks for looking!

Brooke and Aaron's Arlington, Virginia Wedding at The Hendry House

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I'm back to blog on Brooke and Aaron's wedding the gorgeous Hendry House in Arlington, Virginia!  I had a little sneak peek here, but it definitely does no justice to the entirety of their wedding!  Brooke and Aaron not only had some of the prettiest DIY details I've seen in a while, but they also had two ceremonies at their traditional Jewish wedding.  It was delightfully jam-packed with gorgeous photo opportunities, of which I reeeeeeeeally took advantage of.  I'm sure you'll be able to tell, with the crazy abundance of photos below! To start our day, we went outside for Brooke and Aaron's first look, of which was amazing.  I haven't had a bride cry yet during the first look, and I almost cried myself when Brooke started crying!  It was just too sweet!  Aaron was quick with a handkerchief  though to take care of his sweet bride.  :)  After first-look and group photos we headed inside for Brooke and Aaron's Ketubah signing.  It's the first major part of a traditional Jewish wedding, and only close friends and family attend while the witnesses, bride, groom and rabbi sign the marriage contract.  The wedding is not complete though until the next ceremony under the Chuppah!  This part of the wedding is widely known for the seven circles, the ring ceremony (in which the couple places the ring on the index fingers), and the breaking of the glass (one of my favorite parts!).  There's a huge list with everything else that goes on in a traditional Jewish wedding, so go here to check it out!

After the wedding was complete, we headed off to the gorgeous reception tent on another part of the Hendry House property!  This tent was decked out with amaaaaaazing DIY details, and all those details revolved around a book theme that Brooke and Aaron wanted to incorporate.  They had books on the table, bookmark wedding favors, and (my personal favorite) library cards as seating cards for the guests.  They even had a mini card catalog to hold all of the library cards!  Eeek!  So stinkin' cute!  The reception as a whole was just amazing, and I can't begin to describe how exciting it was to be there!  :)

Thank you so much to Brooke, Aaron and their family and friends for letting me be a part of their special day!  Also, many thanks to Courtney and her assistant Janice of A Sweet Soiree for their amazing planning skills, and to Dan Goldman for his awesome DJ skills (and more vendors below!).  Enjoy!

Kim and Dan's Thomas Birkby House Wedding - Leesburg, Virginia!

If you haven't already figured it out, I love Kim and Dan! After I shot their engagements, we became very good friends, and it is always so much fun to shoot a friend’s wedding.  You'll see that their wedding did not disappoint in terms of details, moments, and color! To borrow from Steel Magnolias, Kim's colors were purple and purple (not pink and pink!). Lavender was everywhere, and it was gorgeous. One nice surprise was that lavender was actually growing at the Birkby house in the spot we took the first look and some wedding party photos. It matched perfectly! I mentioned this in their previous blog posts here and here, but their wedding was at the historic Thomas Birkby House in Leesburg, VA. The setting is stunning and has great-looking photo opportunities everywhere you turn. Dan and I talked about how I would describe their wedding, and he came up with "Contemporary Country," and I think that totally fits! The setting was refined and sophisticated, but had great classical and even rural elements, like the wooden backdrop of the first-looks. There were also some fun and unique elements like the photo booth and Kim’s inspired choice of pie instead of cake!

I have to give a big thank you to Kim and Dan for allowing me to be their photographer on their special day. I had a great time as a friend and a photographer, and that makes it twice as special! Also, many thanks to Mary Louise of the Birkby House for her incredible patience, Courtney of A Sweet Soiree for her steadfast planning and help, Dave from Blue Sky Films for working so well with me, and Kate Rogers for her beautiful harp playing (as usual). Kim and Dan also used Celebrations Catering for their delicious meal and Mom's Apple Pie of Leesburg, VA for their wedding pie (not cake!). These vendors were incredible, so if you're on the hunt, certainly give them a call!

Enjoy!

Megan and Erik's Georgetown Wedding!

This past weekend I got to photograph two of my new favorite people, Megan and Erik! Megan found me through my WeddingWire page, and up until a week before her wedding, I had not met she and her fiance before! I knew when I sat down with them just to hammer out some last minute details that we were like peas and carrots. This couple, as you'll see below, has so much personality. Half of the faces they made I had nothing to do with, and I just think that's amazing! They're such a naturally happy and silly couple, and I loved it. We took photos at the tidal basin in DC before ending up in the Georgetown area for their church wedding and then reception. As you can see below, we took some phenomenal photos along the way! Please enjoy!

Before I forget, Megan and Erik had an amazing wedding coordinator, Courtney, at A Sweet Soiree. She was one of the most detail-oriented and helpful coordinators I've ever worked with, so I sincerely hope I get to work with her again sometime! Certainly hit her up if you're still in need of a wedding coordinator for your big day!

Thanks for looking, and have a great day!
