Ingrid and Pat’s Marine and Navy Wedding – Photo Booth!

I recently had delight of being able to photograph Ingrid and Pat's wedding at Fort Myer and The Mayflower Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel!  I met this incredibly couple over a year ago: Ingrid is a nurse and Lieutenant in the United States Navy and Pat is a Landing Force Communications Officer in the United States Marine Corps.  Ingrid was deployed in Afghanistan for most of 2010, but I was overjoyed when she returned in the late Fall of 2010 so we could connect again! Before I can share the actual wedding photos, I have to publish these photo booth photos...as they are just incredible.  Ingrid added the photo booth to her wedding package a few weeks before the wedding, and it was a fantastic way to get her friends and family in front of the camera without it necessarily being awkward.  Think about it: you hate getting your photo taken, but if you're wearing giant silver sunglasses and a mustache on a stick, you're like a completely different person!  Ha ha ha!  Needless to say, her family and friends did an amazing job in front of the camera and I hope you enjoy the photos below.  My favorites?  Probably the last sequence of Pat getting a kiss.  So hilarious!

I'll give you one guess as to what this guy was dancing to in this next photo:

Melissa and Steve’s Hendry House, Arlington, Virginia Wedding!

I recently had the honor of photographing Melissa and Steve's wedding at the historic Hendry House in Arlington, Virginia. The Hendry House is actually part of a historic park and sits tucked in a lovely neighborhood. I knew when I met Melissa and Steve for a walk-through that I would love photographing there. Even though it rained on the actual wedding day, it did not put a damper on Melissa and Steve's beautiful wedding, as I'm sure you'll see below! Melissa and Steve really are a special couple. Their love for one another hits you like a ton of bricks as soon you meet them! They're both incredibly kind and generous, and I feel very lucky to know them! As I'm sure you can tell from the photos, Melissa is the kind of person that is constantly smiling and laughing, which makes for amazing photos. It's the kind of happiness that transcends any kind of rainy day, which I just love!

My favorite part of the wedding was Melissa and Steve incorporating a Volkswagon Beetle! The story behind them bringing it into the wedding is that when Melissa and Steve were dating, they went on a trip in a VW Beetle, and on that trip they discovered that their relationship was really special, so decided to make a serious go of it. And look where that VW Beetle got them! :)

Thanks so much to Melissa, Steve, their family and friends, and to Julie of Your Perfect Day Events for keeping the slightly rainy day a very sunny one for all of us! I had a blast! Enjoy!

Lisa Boggs Wins Accolade of Excellence in the 2010 WPPI 1st Half International Photography Competition

I'm not a person who typically enters competitions. In fact, I haven't entered a real competition since college, when I was competing with my peers in fine art. But, this year I thought I'd take a stab entering 2010 WPPI 1st Half International Photography Competition. I was pleased to find out recently that I received an Accolade of Excellence in the competition for a portrait I had taken! I entitled it "Laura B." and it's from the shoot I did of my cousin-in-law for her band, The Mynabirds. Here's the release from WPPI about the win: Lisa Boggs Wins Accolade of Excellence  in the 2010 WPPI 1st Half International Photography Competition

Lisa Boggs of Great Falls, VA, has received special honors in the WEDDING & PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHERS INTERNATIONAL 2010 WPPI 1st Half International Photography Competition.  Designed to recognize outstanding photographers, the judging was held in Culver City, CA on September, 2010.

"Laura B." received an Accolade of Excellence in the Individual category.

Boggs competed against an international field of photographers to win such honors.

The WPPI 1st Half International Photography Competition awards are presented each year at the largest trade show, educational platform and convention in the United States for professional photographers.  The 2010 competition included 2511 images in 17 different categories submitted by photographers from all over the world.

Aaaaaaaand here's the photo!

You can also view the blog post I did on Laura's photo shoot here and if you would like to explore her ridiculously awesome music (she's been on tour with David Bazan!), please go here.

Hurray! Thanks for reading!

Megan and Erik's Georgetown Wedding!

This past weekend I got to photograph two of my new favorite people, Megan and Erik! Megan found me through my WeddingWire page, and up until a week before her wedding, I had not met she and her fiance before! I knew when I sat down with them just to hammer out some last minute details that we were like peas and carrots. This couple, as you'll see below, has so much personality. Half of the faces they made I had nothing to do with, and I just think that's amazing! They're such a naturally happy and silly couple, and I loved it. We took photos at the tidal basin in DC before ending up in the Georgetown area for their church wedding and then reception. As you can see below, we took some phenomenal photos along the way! Please enjoy!

Before I forget, Megan and Erik had an amazing wedding coordinator, Courtney, at A Sweet Soiree. She was one of the most detail-oriented and helpful coordinators I've ever worked with, so I sincerely hope I get to work with her again sometime! Certainly hit her up if you're still in need of a wedding coordinator for your big day!

Thanks for looking, and have a great day!

Kathryn and Matt's Glen Echo Park Wedding!

I recently had the honor of photographing Kathryn and Matt's wedding in Bethesda and Glen Echo, MD!  As you'll see by the photos, I am a huge fan of Glen Echo Park (and you would be too!) where Kathryn and Matt held their reception.  I have been there a couple times before, and am so in love with it!  Who wouldn't want to photograph at an old amusement park from the late 60's?  ;)  I had a beautiful setting and an amazing wedding party as usual.  Here are just a few to get you started!  Many thanks to Kat and Matt for such a wonderful time!  Enjoy! k&m_glen_echo_1

Christiane and Richard's Washington, DC Wedding - Part Two!

It's time for Christiane and Richard's wedding formals!   These are some of my absolute favorite formals I've done in a while.  I had a great wedding party to work with, along with the beautiful, historic setting of downtown DC.   The church was Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church, and provided a gorgeous white marble backdrop, complete with several steps and giant columns.   We had quite a few formals outside, and alternatively had some inside as well.  After our church photos we decided to brave the DC traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue and attempt some photos in front of the Capital!  We were a good distance away, but were able to find the perfect spot in the median between moving traffic.  It was amazing! I can't emphasize enough how awesome Christiane, Richard and their wedding party were.  They really went all out to help make these photos as beautiful as they are, so many kudos go out to them!  The photos in front of the Capital are certainly my favorite, which you will see at the very end.  I hope you enjoy all of these (and there are a lot) as much as I do! c&r_formals_1

Christiane and Richard's Washington, DC Wedding - Part One!

This weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Christiane and Richard's wedding in Washington, DC.  I absolutely loved photographing them, because they (and their wedding party) were an endless supply of faces!   I got sincere faces, crying faces, silly faces and even some sassy faces!   However, no matter what the face or pose, everyone looked gorgeous and I could not have asked for a better wedding. You're going to see a few faces in the next few photos, but not as many as the upcoming posts!  These are the getting ready photos and details from their big day.   I hope you enjoy!
