Karleigh and Jack's Middleburg, Virginia Engagement Session!

I recently got to drive out to Middleburg, Virginia, one of my favorite places ever, to photograph two of the most amazing people ever, Karleigh and Jack!  I met Karleigh and Jack at the end of 2011, and I knew straight away that I loved them.  They're so easy going and Karleigh has an infectious smile and laugh that you can't help but love to be around!  So obviously I was crazy excited to hang out with the two of them for their engagement photos! Jack's family lives on a beautiful piece of land out in Middleburg, so Karleigh and Jack thought it was the perfect spot for photos.  I couldn't agree more, as everything was gorgeously green and scenic!  It was truly difficult for these two to look bad in any photo, as I'm sure you'll notice.  My favorite photos of them are when they're interacting and both laughing hysterically.  Those were the photos where Karleigh was showing her ring off to Jack, and then again when the two of them were splashing water around in the pool.  Cute cute cute!

Karleigh and Jack, I had such a blast hanging out with you two and I cannot wait for your wedding in October!  I'm so excited!  Enjoy!  :)

Jessica and Seth's Old Town Alexandria Engagement Session!

I love Jessica and Seth.  We had a fantastic time strolling around Old Town for their engagement session, and you'll definitely see why! First off, these two are snazzy dressers!  I really loved their outfits and I thought they worked perfectly for their shoot!  Secondly, these guys are just too fun.  They laugh together, make quirky faces together, and are two genuinely great people.  We took our time working around Old Town, heading to some specific spots that Jessica and Seth had picked out.  Personally, I really loved this ivy corner we found while we were out.  I feel like I could have taken all of their photos there!  But I also loved their sassy spy-like photos we took with Jessica and Seth's trench coats and sunglasses (their idea...awesome, right?).  So cute!

Shari and Evan's DC Nighttime Engagement Session!

This past weekend I was able to photograph Shari and Evan in downtown DC, and boy did we have a great time!  When I initially met with Shari and Evan, Evan told me straight away that they wanted to do an engagement session and it had to be at nighttime.  To me, this was a dream come true, as most couples don't specifically request photos at night!  I was completely up for the challenge, so we decided to start things off in Dupont Circle for our shoot! Dupont Circle is special for Shari and Evan, as Shari used to live right near there and they both have spent several date nights there!  Evan wanted to make sure we highlighted exactly where we were, so you'll definitely notice some street signs indicating that we were, in fact, right in the heart of Dupont!  We also stopped by Cafe Dupont, one of their favorite places to go, located in The Dupont Circle Hotel.  Shari and Evan got the opportunity to sit back and relax and have a couple of drinks while I photographed them candidly at the cafe.  I absolutely loved that, and I'm so glad the staff and patrons at Cafe Dupont were okay with us hanging out there!

After our Dupont Circle escapade, we decided to head down toward the back of the Lincoln Memorial to see what kind of shots we could get.  I have to agree with Evan on this one: the Lincoln one of my favorite memorials to view at night!  It's just so gorgeous, even driving passed it from a distance, so I'm really glad we got some photos with it!  As a super bonus, while I was setting up the Lincoln shots, Shari happened to notice the super moon that peeked out to the right of the Lincoln!  We were all crazy excited about it, so naturally we got some shots with the super moon as well.  :D

Lauren and Kunal's Spring Engagement Session!

I recently had the opportunity to photograph a pretty amazing couple, Lauren and Kunal!  Their wedding is next month, but we took advantage of the beautiful spring weather we've been having (well, when it was warm anyway!) and did an engagement session down at the WWI Memorial and Gravelly Point Park in DC! These two locations were completely ideal for Lauren and Kunal.  In terms of the memorial, Lauren and Kunal had their very first date among the monuments and Kunal had the prescience to ask someone to photograph them that night in front of the tidal basin.  They now take long walks among the monuments whenever the get the chance!  And regarding the Gravelly Point location (among airplanes), Lauren and Kunal's relationship has been defined by tons of travel.  Their first trip together was only after two months of dating, Lauren traveled overseas constantly for her old job, and more recently Kunal flies out of DC every four days for work.

I seriously had the best time ever hanging out with Lauren and Kunal.  They're very easy going and clearly just love being in the presence of one another.  Kunal is the goofball in the relationship and always knows how to make Lauren laugh.  He totally had me laughing behind the camera too!

I'm so excited to share these photos and cannot wait for Lauren and Kunal's wedding next month!  Enjoy!

Deanna and Joe's Fall Engagement Session in Riverbend Park!

I was really excited to photograph Deanna and Joe for a number of reasons, but reason number one was because we did the engagement session in my neck-of-the-woods at Riverbend Park!  You've probably seen me post on Riverbend Park before.  It's a lovely park on the calmer side of the Potomac, just northwest of Great Falls Park.  Deanna and Joe really like hiking in Great Falls Park, so I suggested Riverbend as a nice alternative because it's less-traveled and we could find some great spots without a ton of people around. Reason number two that I was excited to photography Deanna and Joe is that they're just the sweetest couple everrrrrrrrr.  They have that kind of love that's simple and unspoken.  And it's fun to see unfold in photographs!  The scenery and lighting was just perfect for what I consider to be a quiet, but emotionally moving shoot.  Deanna and Joe would just exchange these looks and touches that made your heart melt.  We should only be so lucky to experience these moments ourselves!  But I was just so pleased with how the photos turned out, as I really felt the photographs emulated who Deanna and Joe are as a couple.

Mariah and Evan's Fall Engagement Session!

Guess what, party people?  It's time for Mariah and Evan's awesome fall engagement session!  Woot woot!  :D Evan used to know my husband, Mike, in high school, and when he got engaged to his adorable fiancee, Mariah, he contacted me about potentially photographing their wedding.  I'm so excited they chose me, and you'll love the photos we recently took at Sully Historic Site for their engagement session!

It didn't take long once I started photographing Mariah and Evan to see the amazing connection they had with one another.  They were incredibly sweet and playful and they were complete naturals!  They started their own leaf fight together and even had a small football match!  And although I could see the strong competitiveness in each of them, they always seemed to shake it off and hug and kiss one another immediately afterward.  So stinkin' cute!

It's so hard to pick favorites from the day because we had a lot of different photographic opportunities at this site!  Almost no one was there to get in our way, and we had free range of some gorgeous fall color, a cute garden area, two historic homes (one of which had an awesome window I could shoot through) and a lot of grassy areas for the football photos.  All-in-all I have to say I just love the ones of Evan and Mariah being completely natural with one another.  You can feel the love and the laughter they were experiencing during the session, and it makes my heart melt.  I seriously cannot wait for Mariah and Evan's wedding so I can see their adorable glowing faces on that day!

Jess and Matt's Capitol Hill Engagement Session!

There are some clients that I know I'm destined to photograph.  Jess is definitely one of those clients!  Only a few minutes after meeting her, we realized we had so much in common.  The glaring similarities right off the bat were that we both have gluten allergies and both try and experiment with gluten-free baking, which is really tough .  Secondly, she and I both loved the same restaurant near the Courthouse Metro in Arlington, Toscana, which used to have the best gluten-free pasta options (and has since switched management and now offers no gluten-free options.  We are both livid over it.).  The most recent similarity we discovered is our love for Parks and Recreation!  She and Matt (her awesome fiancé) are even dressing up as Ron Swanson and bacon for Halloween (you must watch the show to get this, but holy crap, it's the best idea ever!).  So, needless to say, I was excited to meet up with Jess and Matt for their recent engagement session over in Capitol Hill! The day we went out to the Capitol was just beautiful!  Everything was very bright and sunny, with a cool wind in the air and a little fall color.  Jess and Matt looked amazing, and Jess had even coordinated their outfits to be red, white and blue, but without being obvious.  I honestly had no idea that's what she was going for and I thought she did a great job with it!  As I'm sure you'll notice, they're just a really adorable couple.  They're incredibly fun while being laid back, and just mesh so well together.  They had the day planned out perfectly so we could do most of the photos at the Capitol, do an outfit change at Jessica's work, and then head over to the Georgetown area to meet up with their super-cute dogs!  I can't say enough how great this photo session was, and I hope you enjoy the photos.  Thank you so much, Jess and Matt, for an amazing session!  I cannot wait for your DC wedding next year (and to eat some really amazing gluten-free food!  Yay!).  Enjoy!

Aura and John's River Farm Engagement Session!

It's the beginning of a busy engagement session season, so we're kicking off the blog with this gorgeous couple, Aura and John!  Aura contacted me the week after they got engaged about doing some photographs, and I had to admire her for being completely on top of the ball!  She describes herself as a type A personality who is a girlie girl, and loves clothing, shopping, decorating and Bravo TV shows (any girl who likes Bravo TV is cool in my book!).  She described John as a guys guy, who loves golf, football and music.  They're both hoping to get married in San Diego (as John lived there for quite a few years) as it fits their mutual love for amazing weather and the water.  But for the engagement photos, Aura and John wanted to stay local and wanted a gorgeous backdrop for some photos.  So I though the perfect place would be River Farm in Alexandria! River Farm is a spectacular venue.  I've shot quite a few weddings there, and I love it every time I'm there!  It's owned by the American Horticulture Society and has lush greenery and flowers in bloom at most times of the year.  Aura, John and I walked around the main garden quite a bit at first for some shots of the two of them just hanging out and looking amazing. I didn't have to give them too much direction, as John really loved being playful with Aura and made her laugh so much.  Some of my favorite shots though are of the two of them goofing off (which, yes, I encouraged) on top of a random platform in the garden (which I imagine has some type of old well underneath or something).  Anyway, always remember when you discover a random platform in a garden it's the perfect time for...dancing!  So I made them practice some dancing for their wedding which was hilarious to watch and photograph, but the photos turned out great.

Now, to incorporate more of who Aura and John are, I decided to do some shots of Aura with shopping bags (remember, she likes clothing and shopping!) and some shots of John with his golf clubs (remember, he loves golf!).  First up, Aura and John carried some shopping bags as if they had just returned from a shopping trip where Aura had made some lovely purchases.  John really committed to the part of being the hilarious boyfriend who didn't really want to carry the bags, but did it out of love for his gal anyway.  So cute!  Next up was John though, who really loved posing with his golf bag and clubs!  Aura graciously posed as his caddie and assisted him as best she could on the golf course (eh hem, lawn of the farm).  John just really shined during these shots, and I really love the series of him tossing a golf ball around and then teaching Aura how to golf.  I also brought along a croquet set for the fun couple to play along with, as the lawn at River Farm just begs for a croquet set to be a permanent fixture there.  As you can see by their croquet game faces, I wouldn't mess around with them.  In the end, Aura (with her awesome game face and mad skillz) beat John at croquet, but it wasn't a real game anyway so everyone was a winner.  Yay!  We ended our session with a few final shots of the happy couple at the house and then hanging out in some cozy rocking chairs.

Aura and John, thank you so much for letting me photograph your engagement photos!  I had a blast and I would do it again in a heartbeat!  Enjoy!

This year has been a great year for Lisa Boggs Photography in terms of being published on a few different sites!  One site that's near and dear to my heart is, of course, United with Love, which is a DC-Area blog launched in 2010 (and it has been amazingly successful with DC brides-to-be!).  They were so kind to feature me last year here and here, and included me this year in a feature series they did on DC-Area wedding photographers (aka, Photography Week)!  Every bride still on the hunt for a photographer should read that whole series! UWL is a great resource for all brides-to-be, so definitely check it out if you're looking for vendors!  Anywho, here's a screen shot below from where they quoted me (click for full post):

Madalyn and Thomas' Old Town Alexandria Engagement Session!

I love a couple with ideas.  When a couple knows exactly what they want out of their engagement session it makes my job so much easier!  And Madalyn and Thomas were just that couple who made my life (and their engagement session) so much better! I met Madalyn and Thomas down in Old Town for their engagement session, and got to meet their awesome dog Bentley as well!  For Madalyn and Thomas' initial photos they wanted to be in formal wear (with Thomas in his Army uniform).  They first wanted to create a scene where Madalyn is reading one of Thomas' letters he sent from overseas and then he walks up as if he just arrived back to the US.  I really dug the idea and I thought they did a great job of portraying that kind of incredible glee that occurs when you get to see someone you've missed for so long!  We then took a few photos of them walking around and hanging out with Bentley (who responded very well when I made monkey noises to get him to look at me!).  And, of course, we got some great shots with Thomas' dog tags and also ones he gifted to Madalyn.  I just loved the his and her tags that said "No Matter the Distance" and "No Matter How Far."  Swoon!

After the formal shots, Madalyn and Thomas changed into some casual wear and we kept walking around in Old Town!  We landed in a small park down there where I recently took some proposal shots, and we were able to do a ton of different looks with what they brought!  We used a blanket and pillow, bubbles, a parasol and chalkboards!  So awesome!  Madalyn and Thomas did a fantastic job just hanging out being so in love.  They really needed next to no direction, as they wanted their photos to have a very natural flow to them.  I was incredibly impressed with this couple, not only with their incredible modeling skills, but also with their relationship.  It's so amazing to see a couple so united, especially when they have been apart so much!  They're just awesome.  :)

Briean and Casey's National Harbor Sailboat Engagement Session!

It was only a few weeks ago that I got the opportunity to go on a sailboat for an engagement session!  Eeek!  I was beyond excited to meet up with Briean and Casey again for their springtime engagement session at National Harbor.  The last time I saw Briean and Casey was in the winter, when we did a wintertime engagement session.  However, I knew that Briean and Casey had their hearts set on getting out onto a boat when the weather was warm for something nautical-themed! Briean and Casey have a ton of history when it comes to everything nautical!  The National Harbor (site of the sailboat and Briean and Casey's future wedding) is significant because Briean worked there for 4 years and she loves the water, boat, tents and the view!  Casey used to be a rescue diver in the Coast Guard, and Briean's favorite place ever is Bethany Beach!  In fact, last July 3rd Casey proposed to Briean at Bethany among family and friends.  He was even wearing a captains hat the entire time, which Briean didn't notice!  So of course, we had to incorporate the hat into the engagement shoot.  For these reasons and so many others, this was just the perfect shoot for this incredible couple!

When we initially arrived at the harbor, we were under the impression that we were going to actually go sail.  However, there was a miscommunication between the coordinators and the captain, so we didn't have enough crew to actually go out into the water.  BUT!  We totally made the best of it, as it was still an amazing setting, and the captain even raised the jib for us so we could get a couple of great shots with it!  To be honest, I was so happy with the photographs that we were able to get with the boat in dock, that it was quite all right that we didn't get to sail.  Although I sort of wanted my What About Bob? moment, it's probably better that the boat was stable so I didn't go overboard with all of my camera equipment.  *grin*

I hope you enjoy all of the shots below!  There were just so many of Briean and Casey that I loved, so it was really difficult to narrow them down.  They are an amazing(ly attractive) couple, and I cannot wait to work with them later this year at their wedding!  Thanks so much for such a fun time, Briean and Casey!

Alexis and Andrew's Capitol Hill Engagement Session - Part Two!

I'm back with part two of Alexis and Andrews Capitol Hill engagement session!  If you missed part one at the actual Capitol, head over here.  Otherwise, press on for some really unique photos taken at the Eastern Market in the heart of the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood! We went to the Eastern Market after our Capitol Hill adventure to take some casual shots of the happy couple!  The Eastern Market is significant to Alexis and Andrew because they love to shop there, and also because it's full of incredibly talented artisans, of which Andrew is one!  Andrew is a glass blower, and I loved picking his brain about the glass blowing process and the kind of temperatures he deals with.  It's very scary, but also incredibly fascinating!  We certainly fit right in the local and artistic crowd while we wandered around looking at plants, produce and textiles.  I just loved the colors of the entire market, which is why so many of the shots have bright vivid colors!  My favorite photos are the ones of Alexis and Andrew in front of a produce stand inside the covered market.  I just love the the variation of color and the peppers they're holding!

After wandering around for awhile, we went just outside the market and discovered this amazing brick wall with a one way sign that Alexis and Andrew had a blast with!  I love the candids of them just being playful and laughing.  So adorable!  And the plain brick wall photos aren't too shabby too!

Alexis and Andrew's Capitol Hill Engagement Session - Part One!

Happy Tuesday, everyone!  Today I'm blogging on the Alexis and Andrew, a wonderful couple I met thanks to a local DC blog, United with Love.  Alexis and Andrew's recent engagement session was so jam-packed with awesomeness that I had to make it into two posts!  Eeek!  Get excited! First up are the photos we took at the Capitol in DC.  Alexis worked on Capitol Hill for 4 years, and she knew she wanted some photos there as it's incredibly significant to her.  We arrived there at a great time of day, as the tours were going on, but not in full force!  We had a lot of open space to utilize without too many people getting in the way, and it was so much fun!  I absolutely loved that it was a gorgeous day, as the bright blue sky just made Alexis' fuschia colored dress pop.  I felt it was a huge injustice to make any of these photos black and white...the colors were just phenomenal!

Our trip around the Capitol was not only fun because we were taking photos, but also informative because Alexis and Andrew knew so much!  I particularly loved The Summer House, or Capitol Grotto that they took us to, as it was this lovely little area just outside of  the Capitol that I never knew existed!  When Alexis worked at the Capitol, it was where she would head for lunch on some days, which I thought was just lovely.  You've gotta love these hidden jems!

I'm pretty much convinced that Alexis is going to be President some day, so we did take some photos of her in front of the Capitol on her own when Andrew was getting the car.  He he he!  All in all, it was such a fun time and I'm so glad I got to hang out with Alexis and Andrew for this part of the session.  Toward the end of this post there are some photos of them at Eastern Market, which is where their next post will pick up!  Enjoy the photos below!  :)

Jessica and Will's Georgetown Engagement Session!

I recently met up with Jessica and Will at Dumbarton Oaks, one of my favorite places in the DC area!  Jessica contacted me a few months ago to set up the session, as Will lives in Texas at the moment and had to plan his trip back to DC.  Jessica loved what I did with another couple at Dumbarton Oaks and in Georgetown, so we nailed that down as the place we absolutely had to go to! The day we arrived it was a gorgeous spring day, with lots of greenery everywhere!  The theme for this shoot was definitely purple.  If you've seen Steel Magnolias, you know that Shelby's signature colors were pink and pink (well, actually blush and bashful).  Well Jessica's signature colors were purple and purple!  She wore a really gorgeous purple top that just popped up against all of that color at Dumbarton!  Not to mention there was a lot of purple wysteria hanging around about the grounds that were the perfect match to her outfit!

Jessica and Will were a joy to work with!  There's really nothing quite as fun then walking around a gorgeous area like Dumbarton and getting to photograph a couple in love.  By the end of the shoot I was working with two pro's who knew exactly what to do and how to work it!  I had such a blast.  Jessica and Will, thanks for such a fun day and for taking me to Dumbarton!  I hope we get to work together for your 2012 wedding!  Enjoy!

Amy and Kepper's Historic Fairfax, Virginia Engagement Session!

Happy Friday, everyone!  I'm back to blog about Amy and Kepper who I recently got to photograph in Historic Fairfax, Virginia!   Amy and Kepper are getting married near Austin, Texas later this year (where Kepper is from), so they decided to choose Fairfax as their engagement photo location, since that's where Amy is from!   We started out at the Historic Fairfax County Courthouse and I absolutely love the white dress Amy wore.  It actually makes them look like they got hitched at the courthouse!  I learned while we were there that Amy has some history of dancing, as she totally posed it out for some shots.  Don't those two photos look like something from Dancing with the Stars?!  Ha ha ha!   After we left the courthouse, we walked around the Fairfax area, as it has tons of  old (but super colorful) buildings and landscapes.  We also went to a local park (after a brief outfit change) and then went to the old Fairfax High School to grab a photo in front of a family tree.  Apparently Amy's parents met in high school and have a photo of them in front of this same oak tree.  How cute is that?!  :) Amy and Kepper were complete naturals when it came to modeling in front of the camera!  Both were admittedly a little nervous at first (especially Kepper!), but it did not take long for them to loosen up with a little direction!  By the end of the shoot, I had to congratulate them for giving me so much to work with!   I love all of their photos!  Thanks so much for an amazing time, Amy and Kepper!  Enjoy!

Katie and Jeff's Three Fox Vineyards Engagement Session!

We're wrapping up the week with my lovely engagement session with Katie and Jeff at Three Fox Vineyards in Delaplane, Virginia!  When I initially met with Katie and Jeff about their wedding photography the mentioned how they definitely wanted their engagements at this vineyard out in Delaplane, particularly because they love it and also sponsor a row of vines!   So I was ecstatic when the date finally rolled around for me to drive out there with them! The vineyard is absolutely gorgeous, and was the perfect backdrop for Katie and Jeff's photos!  I loved how the vineyard really does have tables and chairs set up so you can just buy a bottle of wine and relax among the rows of vines!  What's also great is that Three Fox Vineyards is very pet friendly, so Katie and Jeff brought their adorable Westie, Fiona, along for the shoot!  When she wasn't posing with Jeff and Katie, she was making friends with other dogs!

I really loved the relaxed feel of this engagement shoot.  It just felt like any other day hanging out at a vineyard and enjoying life.  Katie and Jeff were so great to work with, and you can tell how much they adore one another in their photos.  I can't wait to work with them at their wedding, of which I hope to see Fiona again too!

Dan and Kristen's Old Town Alexandria Proposal

It was only a week ago that I was emailing back and forth with Dan to finalize photography for his proposal to Kristen last Saturday!  We met prior to the big day as well to find the ideal spot for him to pop the question to his girlfriend.  We decided on a small park in Old Town that was between where they normally park their car and then where they were supposed to go to dinner.  It is such a cute park located right by the water, and is actually pretty quiet for the most part in terms of people! Kristen was under the impression they were meeting another couple in Old Town to go to dinner, but Dan had actually planned for the proposal and then for just the two of them to have dinner at the site of their first date: The Chart House.  Dan and I texted back and forth to make sure we were both on track with the schedule and where we needed to be!  I, of course, looked like a super spy with my giant camera and zoom lens, tucked in behind a tree and some bushes.  The few people that actually came down and walked through the park were definitely thrown off by me!  Nevertheless, the timing worked out perfectly and I was able to capture the proposal from my hiding spot and also get some brief portraits in afterward before Dan and Kristen headed off to dinner.  And...if you hadn't guessed it...she said YES!

Many thanks to Dan for his hard work coordinating with me, and to Kristen for allowing a crazy gal like me to photograph their proposal.  You two were great!  It was a wonderful experience, and I hope I get to photograph more proposals in the future!  Enjoy the photos below!

Weekend in Review - Love Is in the Air!

What a great weekend!  I had three beautiful portrait sessions that took me to very different places in the DC area, and they were all spectacular!  Dan and Kristen got engaged in Old Town Alexandria (and I photographed the proposal!); Katie, Jason and Blake explored the Cherry Blossoms in DC; and Katie and Jeff met with me for their engagement photos in Delaplane, VA!  Although exhausted after everything yesterday, I still couldn't wait to review the photos and pick my favorites from the weekend.  Enjoy the photos below and stay tuned for each groups own blog post!

Lisa Boggs Photography Launches New 2011 Website!

Hello beautiful people!  Well, it's officially official.  I have launched a new website for 2011!  Squee!  The new site is at the exact same web address (www.lisaboggsphotography.com), but looks a little different!  I'm very pleased with how it turned out (and that it's working!), but definitely let me know what you all like or dislike about it if you have any comments!   Many thanks to everyone who supported me throughout the website switcharoo process (you know who you are) and a thousand thank you's to my amazing clients who make this whole thing possible!  Thanks so much for looking, and I appreciate any and all feedback!  :)
